I had lost a cross that came as a free gift with an icon from Mt. Athos. Casting around, I first bought a silver cross with St. George on the reverse and our crucified Lord on the obverse. Beautiful, but rather small for me, as I am 6'5" tall, the tallest in our Greek Orthodox congregation (I am a convert, of Irish-Scandinavian-general northern European ancestry, no trace of Eastern European blood). Your beautiful heavy Byzantine chain and large cross were exactly right for me. I found the cross symbolic in both its three levels, for the Trinity, and that the top level has the appearance of a star, the whole reflecting that the pain of the Crucifixion leads to the death of death by death, with the star of rebirth and resurrection that follows. Whether that was an intended statement, it was one that struck me, and does still. It is a work of art and glory to God all at once. I will always treasure it.
